Further Information

Now in its eighth year the 10 Parishes Community Carnival brings a fresh, accessible and fun approach to the carnival season. Be it wheelbarrow floats, colourful costumes, stunning structures - all are welcome as long as they are person powered.

The 10 Parishes Carnival started in 2006 to try and return Wiveliscombe to its rightful place as one of the leading carnival centres in the country. Local people of all ages and abilities are being asked once again to grab a wheelbarrow, pram, trolley, rucksack. Get hold of some willow, wire, hazel and tissue paper to make a carnival entry and come and take part. In previous years Wiveliscombe has been invaded by body-less heads, hairy monsters, pirate ships, dragons, spaceships, animals, arks and much, much more. Participants have ranged from babies in prams to more senior residents practising ‘zimmer power’!

This year, let your imagination run wild with Roald Dahl and his fantastic creations. Our Roald Dahl themed procession is going to be easy for you to recreate – just look on your bookshelves and grab a character! Let’s really say Happy Birthday to Roald who would be almost 100 years old and make our procession a physical parade of his books! Entries can be as simple or complicated as you like. Some have seen whole families slaving for days over the family wheelbarrow. Others have seen youngsters slapping a bit of paint on a cardboard costume a couple of hours before the off. All are welcome and equally valued. There are prizes galore to be had, so see if you can bag one or even the Carnival Cup!
